Buy a house now while you can still get down-payment assistance
The recent housing bill does away with the Down-Payment assistance programs so many first time home buyers have used to purchase a home in the past few years. Effective October 1, 2008...the programs will be history. If you're a first time home buyer, get the DPA and a tax rebate, but only until October 1, 2008.
$7500 Tax Rebate offered for 1st Time Home Buyers
When President Bush signed H.R. 3221, the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, he approved legislation allowing single or head-of-household taxpayers whose adjusted gross income is no more than $75,000 to take a $7,500 temporary tax credit. The same applies to married couples who earn $150,000 or less. To qualify, buyers must actually close on the sale of a home on or after April 9, 2008, and before July 1, 2009. Tax credit is limited to first time homebuyers (those who have not owned a home in the past 3 years).
